Families Are Best (FAB)
Families are Best (FAB)
Our Families are Best sessions take place throughout the year focusing on a range of areas highlighted as a need in our community. The importance of bedtime routines including use of screen time, bedtime stories and dental hygiene. The importance of reading including a book café where cosy corners are set up with book baskets, puppets, cuddly toys and blankets to snuggle up with a loved one and share a book, a visit from the local library for parents/carers to join, ways to develop vocabulary and how to embrace reading all around us. The importance of mathematics including how to teach number in the outdoor environment and mathematical concepts to learn when out shopping, at mealtimes and at bath time. Transition and school readiness including what to expect when your child starts school, what does school readiness mean and books to support transition.
Harrington Hummingbirds
Our Harrington Hummingbirds (HHB) sessions take place every month. We invite our families to come and sing and learn together, nurturing a loving, supportive hands-on learning culture with their children. We believe that positive parenting involves parents respecting children as well as children having respect for their families. We focus on eye contact as we sing and develop vocabulary and speaking and listening skills. Teachers share stories with the group modelling to parents/carers how to make a book ‘come ‘alive’ to nurture the children’s love of reading. We talk about the importance of sharing books to learn new vocabulary that wouldn’t normally be used in everyday conversations. We send personal invites to families both face to face and on class dojo. Information about the sessions is also on class dojo and the school newsletter.
