Harrington Nursery School are proud to be part of the Derby City Smiles health programme pilot.

In our nursery, all children are taught to brush their teeth during each session, and are provided with toothbrushes and toothpaste to continue this at home.

Why You Should encourage your child to brush their teeth

1. Keeps Teeth Healthy

Brushing teeth helps remove food and germs that can cause cavities and tooth decay. Healthy teeth are important for eating and smiling!

2. Freshens Breath

Brushing teeth removes bad smells and keeps your breath fresh. This helps children to feel good when talking to friends and family.

3. Sets a Good Habit

Brushing teeth every day teaches a good habit. It’s important to take care of your teeth as you grow up.

4. Stronger Teeth

Using toothpaste with fluoride helps make your teeth stronger. Strong teeth are less likely to get holes or damage.

5. Healthy Gums

Brushing also keeps gums healthy. Healthy gums help hold your teeth in place and prevent them from getting sore.

How to Brush Your Teeth

1. Use a small amount of toothpaste on your brush.
2. Brush in a circular motion for two minutes.
3. Don’t forget to brush the back of your teeth!
4. Rinse your mouth with water after brushing.

Fun Tips!

Make brushing fun! Sing a song or use a timer to know when two minutes are up. You can even pretend your toothbrush is a magic wand!

Remember, brushing teeth is an important part of staying healthy and having a bright smile. So, make sure to encourage your child to brush every morning and night!
