We aim for every child to have 100% attendance at Harrington Nursery School and will support all parents and families to get their child to school on time, every day.

If you would like more information about how we will do this, see our Attendance & Absence policy on our policies page.

Attending nursery is important for many reasons:

  • Social Development: Nursery provides children with the opportunity to interact with their peers, helping them develop essential social skills, such as sharing, cooperation, and empathy.
  • Emotional Growth: Being in a nursery setting allows children to learn how to express their feelings and cope with emotions, which is crucial for their emotional development.
  • Cognitive Skills: Nursery programmes often focus on activities that promote cognitive skills, including counting, recognising letters, and problem-solving, setting a strong foundation for future learning.
  • Independence: Attending nursery encourages children to become more independent as they learn to navigate their environment, make choices, and carry out simple tasks on their own.
  • Preparedness for School: Nursery prepares children for the transition to primary school by helping them become accustomed to a structured routine and various learning activities.
  • Language Development: Interacting with other children and adults in nursery fosters language skills as children learn new vocabulary and ways to communicate effectively.
  • Physical Development: Nursery activities often include play that promotes fine and gross motor skills, which are important for physical development
